Shortly after starting the job, Dennis Martire was promoted with LIUNA to assistant director then director of the laborers’ construction department. But his advancements did not end there. LIUNA continued to recognize his leadership and skills with labor unions by appointing him as assistant regional manager of the mid-Atlantic region in 2000. He has held this elected position since 2002, continuing to extend success and skill to LIUNA.

Only four years after graduating from West Virginia Wesleyan College, Martire began his three-decade career with the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA). From 1990 through today, he’s acted in roles with increasing responsibility, extending his leadership and knowledge to the organization as well as numerous advisory boards and committees. With various positions for the first decade of his work with LIUNA, Dennis Martire ascended to the elected position of vice president and regional manager over the mid-Atlantic area. He’s remained in that leadership role since that time as well as worked with his local Pittsburgh union chapter, #1058.
Dennis Martire’s career with the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA) could very well stand as testament to his many decades of commitment and dedication to the union’s membership. His long-term steady advancement inside LiUNA proves his commitment in many important ways.
Dennis Martire also oversees LiUNA’s top-notch training program, which serves to provide continuing training for members, as a way to assist them with performing their job-related tasks more competently and efficiently. This training is available in a wide range of subjects and specialties and it assists workers with advancing in their careers, as well as assuring their employers that union workers tend to be more efficient and cost-effective than other workers. His LiUNA career started way back in April 1990, when he became an International Representative for the LiUNA Jurisdictional Disputes Department. He subsequently went on to the union’s Laborers’ Construction Department, first as an assistant Director and then as the Director of that department.
Dennis Martire once also worked hand-in-hand with Montgomery County, Maryland officials to pass a prevailing wage law to ensure that working families could count on fair wages from their employers. Such wage laws also serve another purpose; to ensure that taxpayers receive a greater return on their public investments. Overwhelmingly, studies show that prevailing wage laws do not really drive up costs for employers, but they do improve worker efficiency, which means public works projects are completed faster and more easily, which is better for taxpayers and maximizes their investments.
